Monday 9th Febuary 2014

Today we joined the first years in a hot forging tutorial, Wayne and Julie advised us and shown us how to set up, talked us through safety and we made a hook each.
I found it difficult to begin with until I got into the right position and a routine of hitting the hot steel
with the hammer. In the end I really enjoyed this technique and I'm really glad I had a try.

On the afternoon I read a book Sarah brought in "
Non-precious Jewellery: Methods and Techniques (Design and Make) by Kathie Murphy
with loads of inspiration and techniques people have used in textiles and paper.
I also carried on making square wire forms
(ring shanks)

Friday 28th November

Today I carried on with my enamel samples and Cerys also shown me how to create a hinge but she did warn me using soldered pieces in the kiln, even when using enamelling solder can always break because of the heat so if I used this technique I may have to think of a way around using one or the other or attaching the pieces using cold connections and be very careful.
This was Cerys' hinge example, I'm excited to create mine next week!
